MDK Welcomes New Operator Workers

Fifteen Bitcoin mining operators, hardware makers and pools have committed to building integrations for an open-source framework that standardizes how different machines and systems communicate.
Fifteen Bitcoin mining operators, ASIC manufacturers and mining pools committed on Oct. 24, 2026, to build and maintain integrations for the Mining Development Kit, or MDK, an open-source framework that gives mining equipment from different vendors one common interface.
How it works
Each participant will maintain an MDK Worker, a translation layer between its own hardware, pool or system and MDK. A Worker converts a company interface into a shared language that MDK applications can read. Companies decide exactly which functions to expose and keep full control over their own equipment and software. The MDK orchestration kernel communicates only with Workers through the MDK Protocol, never directly with individual devices. Developers can therefore write one monitoring tool, application or AI agent that works across many vendors without rebuilding the connection for each one.
Background
A large mining site often runs thousands of machines made by different manufacturers and connected to several pools, each managed through separate control software. Those systems were rarely designed to share data, so teams spent repeated cycles recreating the same connections. MDK removes that duplication by letting every company keep its existing stack while exposing a single, consistent interface.
Tether developed the framework and announced the commitments. Hardware makers Bitmain, Canaan and MicroBT joined alongside pools Foundry Digital, F2Pool, Luxor Technology, OCEAN, EMCD and SpiderPool. The remaining participants are Bitdeer, Proto part of Block, Inc., ACME Swisstech, Elektron Energy, Heatbit and Stratum V2. Tether’s own QVAC mining agent already operates directly on MDK.
Why it matters
As more companies maintain their own Workers, the same application can run across a widening portion of the mining industry without custom code for every vendor. MDK reached version 0.11 during the forum in Lugano held Oct. 23-24, 2026. A stable 1.0 release remains targeted for the end of the year. The project is released under Apache 2.0 terms, and the public repository already contains documentation plus a demo environment with mock hardware, a gateway and a dashboard. The framework stays open to any manufacturer, pool, operator or developer who wants to add a Worker.
Ownership of each Worker stays with the company that builds it, preserving control while creating shared utility. Shibo and Bark of Doginal Dogs host daily X Spaces on the Crypto Spaces Network.
