Solana Move Would Come In Two Stages

Governance voting started Oct. 26, 2026, at a decentralized cloud computing network weighing an exit from its own chain to Solana.
The vote remains open until 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026, leaving the outcome undecided for now.
Vote Status
Akash is the network at issue, a marketplace that rents out computing power. The chain it uses today is akashnet-2, a sovereign chain created using Cosmos tools. On Oct. 27, tallies showed roughly 98% of votes in favor.
Enough participation had come in to meet quorum, and the tally can still move.
After The Vote
Other infrastructure networks made the same move from their own chains to Solana previously.
The team described that as a tested path for the switch. Governance keeps the power to stop the marketplace cutover up to shortly before it.
Token moves cannot be reversed after the portal opens whoever makes them. Support for Solana AKT can be added by wallets and exchanges after it goes live at their discretion. The timing can land before the marketplace itself moves given the separate timelines.
Marketplace Timing
The token vote leaves the marketplace in place for the moment. Live leases and governance on akashnet-2 carry on for the present.
Moving the marketplace will not happen until audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote all succeed.
That later vote would set the cutover point in the end. Following cutover, fresh deployments would be placed on Solana and not stay on the old chain.
The old chain would wind down first and then halt down the line. Providers would install upgraded software and re-register on Solana when the time comes. Tenants keep their own deployment files throughout.
Validators would lose that role at the halt when it comes.
Who Moves What
-
Exchanges transfer customer balances at their own pace.
-
Console wallets move on their own as part of the process.
-
Holders who self-custody link a Cosmos wallet and enter a Solana address.
-
Holders need no SOL to carry out the move.
-
Tokens on chains linked through Cosmos must first go back to akashnet-2 to be eligible.
-
The portal takes AKT from the home chain alone as designed.
How The Team Chose
A public call for a host chain was opened by the team in an announcement dated Dec. 15, 2025. Both Solana and one Ethereum layer-2 cleared every hard requirement in the search. Solana became the team’s choice, with reasons laid out publicly on Oct. 26, 2026.
The team’s case rested on lower costs under load, no single operator and peer networks in the same field. The network would no longer operate its own chain once on Solana in the new setup.
Solana’s validators would confirm its transactions after the move.
Engineering and audit support was offered by the Solana Foundation for the effort. According to the team, it does not rely on that help at all.
Token Mechanics
On Solana, AKT keeps its ticker and the same six decimals.
Nothing sent through the portal can be reversed by anyone. Support from holders would let AKT launch as a Solana token.
It would use SPL, the shared token format on Solana. The Solana token is not live until the vote clears and two audits conclude. The team plans to announce the date in due course.
AKT would move through a one-way portal at a 1-to-1 rate. Each token sent exits the old chain, so supply is unchanged.
What Is At Stake
Holders are choosing whether a working network gives up its own chain in this process. The outcome affects where its compute market will live over time.
